The design was loosely based on a similar trompe l’oeil painting at the Villa Vico Bello near Siena
The scenery beyond the wall and the tent structure is inspired by Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot’s landscape paintings of Italy

The Tented Room

The design for this room is based on the decoration in a house near Sienna. After “the tented room” had caught the attention of our patrons, the commission was given to paint a similar decor in their villa near Florence.

White damask

The tent was to be in a painted white damask, supported by carved green poles. Various Italian landscapes are to be seen above the stone wall. These were mainly adaptations of Corot’s landscape paintings of Italy.

One of the most successful features of this room is the rapport between inside and out, which is heightened by the large French windows, leading to a Mimosa pergola.

This beautiful villa overlooks Florence. Its history goes back to the fourteenth century. The owners have given much thought to making the reception rooms both precious and intimate.
